Magazine- Draft

This is the rough draft of our TV magazine front cover, which we have chosen to use the conventions of other magazine front covers to guide us and make our magazine follow the forms of current front covers.
We chose to have a rather basic layout, using most of the characters from the soap trailer and spacing them quite close together as this is done with other magazines such as TV Choice.
We also decided to have characters from the main love storyline as the main images, in the middle of the magazine to emphasise their importance. By having the statement 'I'm done!' right across the front it catches the audiences eye and by making this a bright colour such as yellow it really stands out.

Poster- Draft

We decided to include all the characters in this poster to get the audience familiar with them all and to give them all a chance to connect better with our target audience. We also chose to keep all the storylines separate and not to mix up the characters so as to help the audience get a better understanding of who is who and what is going on. We will use similar colours in the magazine and the poster to keep the brand identity and make it bright and vibrant to draw the audience in.

Warwick Avenue- Storyboard

This is our story board for our soap trailer, by doing this before actually recording the soap it helps us think out our ideas clearer and work out what camera shots and angles we will use instead of doing is last minute. Plus, if the shots/ angles do not work out alterations can be made at the time of filming.

Chararcters and Costumes

Ali is homosexual he is very secretive about his sexuality, plus we chose to have him wearing relaxed clothes to not stereotype him too much because of his sexuality.

Dammy is a typical 'bad boy' he does not try hard and puts everything to the side. Always breaking the rules for example wearing a coat in doors, which is black connoting his bad side.

Moe is also very secretive about his sexuality but different to Ali because he has a girlfriend and confused about what he wants. Darine is a typical high school girlfriend which does not really notice this. We put both of them in red and black this continues in the poster and magazine with similar colours creating brand identity.

Anyla is from a broken family she is a typical young naughty girl which hides her feelings by doing something bad/against the law. We decided to put her in modern clothes which are in fashion at the moment for her age group. Her storyline makes the audience feel sorry for her on the other hand when she decides to steal from a shop it shows the side which no one likes.

Vigan is a typical high school 'player' he gets a bit bored with his girlfriend Legjenda and dumps her for no apparent reason. We put him in blue costume because it is stereotyped as a boys colour.

We also decided to put Legjenda into a stereotype colour pink but also with the colour blue showing that she is somehow connected to Vigan (girlfriend). In the trailer you do not seem to see much of her personality however her running away from the situation shows that she's weak and can not handle being left alone.

Costume & Props

The costumes will be quite simple, we will need a school uniform for Dammy, he is meant to look older than the rest of the students as if he has been held back. Normal smart clothes for Adam and Louena. Non- smart clothes for Vigan and Anita, need to look more street plus, is has to look like a cold night, Anita will have a coat and scarf. Smart clothes worn at school for the rest of the characters, to show that they are in 6th form. We will need an real exam paper for Dammy's shot also with a coat and bag, for when he storms off taking his stuff. Finally, Darine will also have to have a coat on for when she is stealing a chocolate from the shop.

Location

The locations that we are going to use are all near, this is a good idea as time wouldn't be wasted and it's less time consuming. Will will use our school Paddington Acadmey, we chose this because it represents youth and it is a modern school which is what we are trying to show in our soap trailer. Also PA is ideal for the shot will are going to use for example: the structure of the toilets. Another location we will use is Paddington Rec somewhere where most people around here have been, but there is a twist it will be filmed at night a time where it isn't a friendly little kids place there; contributing with the target audience. We will also use a shop next to my house (Legjenda) which I am sure we will be allowed to film there as the people know me well. Finally, we are going to film in my house which will be perfect for the camera shot keeping in mind wide space. Plus, it is close to the school keeping up with the time limit

Overall, we are trying to make every part of the trailer look youthful and modern for this time, to make it more interesting and attracting our rage of audience. I was inspired to mostly to film at school from Hollyoaks it works quite well, furthermore I was inspired to use close locations round the area for example Warwick for my soap from Skins, it just looks more middle class as it is what the area is all about.

Story Lines

The soap will be called Warwick Avenue as it is a working class place furthermore, it will be in posh font in contrast to the poster.

Story line 1

This will be set in the school toilets, there will be a girl and a boy up to some funny business however, this will not be shown. The boy walks out the cubicle not showing his identity and he says "I think we should keep this between us." He walks out and the girl is left alone sitting on the toilet sit angry about what just happened.

Story line 2

There is a girl and a boy walking walking at night time at Paddington Rec holding hands. The boy says to the girl "i need to tell you something." The girl is staring at him in disapproval... he continues "I think I'll be happier single" the girl replies softly but with a bit of grit in her voice "After everything." In slow motion we see the girl letting go of the boys hands and running off upset with her scarf over her face.

Storyline 3

A girl that just came back from school finds her house empty when she got home, there is a note on the fridge written by her mum; "There's food in the microwave (more modern) don't know when I'll be back."

Story line 4

A boy is doing an exam all by himself in a class with a male teacher supervising. The teacher is about to walk out the class "I will return in a few minutes," the student looks like he is struggling so he gets up with no hesitation and walks out.

Story line 5

The same character that arrives home to a empty house is stealing food from a corner shop.

Story line 6

The girl is at home calling her boyfriend and her boy friends is at his house with another boy and ignores her call turns to the boy and looks at him.

Overall we would like our use of cliffhangers and teen-related story lines to create a tense atmosphere, making the audience want to watch the soap to find out what happens.

Music Choice

We decided to choose this type of music as it has a young feel to it, it is all about problems that teenagers have between thier parents, siblings and mostly love. I think the trailer would work quite well with this sound track making the moving image connect to what is being said in the song. Having two types of conventions in a trailer will make it look more interesting and catch more attention to encourage the audience to watch the soap. The song is unique and unreleased to it will be something new to hear furthermore it it modern performed by talented teenagers.

Production Logo

We decided that instead of doing a production logo and company, we would make our our channel, complete with channel ident. We chose to do this as it is how all soaps are shown and represented, so to keep ours in line with other popular soaps, it seems like the best idea. After researching channel idents such as BBC One, ITV and Channel 4 we realised that simple idents can be more effective than complicated ones.
We have chosen a smiley face as our channel ident, the smiley face will be animated to wink and spin. Our channel will be called Cheeky and the logo will be in the top right-hand corner of the screen. This will bring about a playful feel and hopefully appeal to our target audience. Using the name Cheeky establishes our brand identity better and goes well with the Smiley face, this is also used in a humorous way, attracting teen audiences. The use of the smiley face is really simple but at the same time memorable.

Target Audience Profile

After distributing our questionnaires around the sixth form room we got an insight into what young people would like to see more of in today's soaps.
Around 60% of students asked said their favourite soap was 'Eastenders', telling us that the majority prefer real-life situations, based around real environments. However many would also prefer to see more action, romance, drama and teen-related storylines.
We would like to aim our soap at 15-19 year olds and by giving them a new soap with drama and storylines revolving around teen lives, hoping it would appeal to them more then the current soaps which are mainly aimed at older people. We have set our soap mainly in school and around the school area: Paddington Rec and Warwick, again relating to teenagers, where life mostly revolves around school, friends and family.
We aim to give our characters similar interests and similar lifestyles to London teenagers so it is easier for them to empathise with the characters and their lives.
